Google reviews not showing up: what to check before contacting support
A customer tells you they left a review. You thank them, open your profile, and it isn't there.
Check that they reviewed the correct business, save the review link and submission date, and see whether the review can be opened publicly. Google documents delays, policy removals and other possible causes. A missing review alone doesn't tell you which applies. Google's missing-review guidance
There are several possibilities, and you usually can't tell which one applies from the missing review alone. Start by finding out exactly what was submitted and where. That gives you something useful to work with if you need support.
Ask one simple follow-up
You don't need to make the customer troubleshoot your profile. A short message is enough:
Thanks for taking the time to leave a review. I'm not seeing it on our profile yet. If it's convenient, could you send me the link to the review, or a screenshot showing which business it was posted to? Please leave out anything private. No need to write another one while I check.
That message asks for clarification without suggesting a rating or telling them what to write.
Compare the business on the review with the profile you manage. Pay attention to old locations, similar names, and separate branches. A screenshot tells you what the customer saw. It doesn't establish that everyone else can see the review. Open the supplied review link outside the management view and record what appears. Keep customer-provided evidence private, and only pass on what is necessary through the appropriate support channel.
Check what Google actually says about missing reviews
Google identifies several possible explanations. Reviews may take a few days to appear while being checked. A recent profile merge can also delay display. Some reviews are removed for policy violations, and those aren't restored. Google specifically directs owners to support when reviews disappear after reinstatement. Missing-review guidance
Google also notes that older phones or software can cause problems when a customer tries to leave a review; it recommends updating the Maps app. In some cases, Google temporarily restricts reviews or other contributions for particular profiles or business categories. Other documented causes
These are possible explanations. They don't establish what happened to your customer's review.
It's tempting to find a forum answer that sounds like your situation and treat it as the cause. I'd be careful with that. Someone saying their review vanished after a particular event doesn't establish that the event caused yours to vanish.
For example, “the customer used our Wi-Fi” doesn't give you enough evidence to announce that you've found the reason. Record what you know and keep the explanation open until you have something that supports it.
Separate the review from the total
Check the specific review and the displayed count. A change in the total alone doesn't tell you which review changed or why.
Say three customers tell a shop owner they've posted reviews. The visible count goes up by two. That doesn't establish which of the three is missing. Another review could have changed during the same period.
Ask for the relevant links when practical, compare the right profile, and record the dates. A little care here is better than contacting support with a conclusion the evidence doesn't support.
Put the evidence in one place
Use this checklist before contacting support. Keep it in your own records rather than a public forum post.
| Detail | Your note |
|---|---|
| Business name and correct public Maps link | ____________________ |
| Date the customer says they submitted the review | ____________________ |
| Review link or permitted screenshot, if available | ____________________ |
| Where the review is visible, if anywhere | ____________________ |
| Recent merge, reinstatement, or relevant profile change | ____________________ |
| What you checked and when | ____________________ |
| Existing support case reference, if any | ____________________ |
Keep the note simple: what was posted, where it went, and when you checked. “Customer sent this link on Monday; I couldn't see the review on Tuesday” is useful. “Google is deleting all our reviews” needs evidence you may not have.
Keep the support request specific
After checking the official guidance, use Google Business Profile support if you need help with an unresolved issue. Choose the relevant business and describe what you observed. Available contact options and requested information can vary.
You can adapt this short example:
A customer reports submitting a review for this business on [date]. The correct profile is [Maps link]. I checked [where you checked] on [date] and couldn't see that review. A review link or screenshot is available. The profile recently [relevant change, or “has no relevant change I know of”]. Please advise on the appropriate next step.
Only include facts you can stand behind. Keep the confirmation or case reference so a later follow-up can refer to the same issue.
Avoid creating a second problem
Don't offer a discount for another review or ask customers to use extra accounts. Google's policy prohibits incentives for reviews, fake engagement, and selectively asking for positive reviews. Requests should leave the customer's rating and wording to them. Google's review policy
If a review is visible but you disagree with it, that's a separate situation from a missing review. Read the applicable reporting rules before assuming disagreement is a reason for removal.
You can't promise the customer that their review will appear, and I wouldn't pay anyone who promises they can restore it without knowing the case. What you can do is confirm the right listing, collect useful evidence, and make a clear request through the official route.
